I finally got my hands on a juicer and I couldn’t be more excited! I’ve spent what feels like ‘forever’ debating whether or not to buy a juicer. Yes, it’s one of those things that sounds like a good idea, however, the reality is often ‘will you actually use it?’, the constant washing of said product, the novelty factor – plus the whole, me being a typical indecisive girl and all that! However, I started to read more and more articles on juicing and the positive effects it can have on not only your health, but your body and mind too.
More importantly for me juicer can help you to get that flawless complexion all women (and I’m sure men too!) crave. I’ve recently started to suffer from bad skin again 🙁 don’t get me wrong, it’s been worse, but as a 28 year old woman, I’m getting a bit old for the whole ‘teen’ acne thing! And whilst reading up on juicing I discovered it can have some amazing benefits to your skin (not to mention my thinning hair – damn the raging process!!!).
So, basically, drinking juice is like drinking pure nutrients. And what’s more – those nutrients go straight into your blood stream as juicing requires little digestion.
So, what ingredients can you juice and why are they good for your skin?
My Top 5 ingredients are:
Carrots – Carrots are high in Betacarotene which the body converts to Vitamin A. Vitamin A is essential for cell renewal and repair and helps to protect skin from sun damage.
Kale – Kale is one of the most nutrient dense foods out there. It’s full of Vitamin A & Vitamin C which are the top two vits when it comes to anti-aging. So less of the expensive skin creams and more kale please!
Ginger – Ginger is a super anti-inflammatory that contains around 40 antioxidants that help protect the skin from aging; removing toxins from the skin allowing for increased circulation. It can also be used as a topical treatment to fight acne either on it’s own or in a face mask. (It’s also great for helping to treat colds and flus)
Lemon – Lemons are a source of calcium, vitamin C & magnesium which are all great for the skin. It helps to strengthen your immune system and helps to aid digestion making it a great stomach cleanser.
Beetroot – Beetroot is crammed with anti-oxidents and helps to soothe skin inflammation, making it another great anti-aging food. They’re full of Vitamins A, C, E & K and are high in calcium to strengthen bones & teeth, and iron which is essential for producing red blood cells & strengthening hair & nails.
Now you have the ingredients you’ll need some recipes to get cracking right? My go to juices are –
4 Carrots, 2 apples, 1inch ginger (or to taste)
1 cucumber, 2 apples, 1 lemon, 1 stalk celery & 1 inch ginger (or to taste)
2 small beets, 2 green apples & 3 carrots
