I always try to promote eating real food, and where possible making your own from scratch. A boiled egg, half an avocado or an apple with peanut butter are all great snacks, but sometimes there just isn’t enough time to prep these things or we need something a bit more discreet with no fuss – or maybe we just really fancy a cheeky little treat. Whatever the reason there are now some nutritious, delicious pre-packaged snacks on the market that won’t stand in the way of you and your goals.

I’ll start with the one that most of you will already know – Primal Pantry Bars. These paleo snack bars are 100% natural; free from gluten, grains, refined sugar, soya, dairy, GMO’s and vegetable oils. The best thing about these bars – aside from being made in the UK – is that the dried fruit in them doesn’t contain vegetable oils, sugar or sulphates. I’ve picked up so many bars and snack packs in the past that I’ve been extremely disappointed in as they’ve either contained too much sugar (some as much as 40-50%) or nasty vegetable oils – I’m sure you’ll agree that doesn’t sound very healthy! And finally, as are all of the snacks on my list, these are vegan and vegetarian.Nothing but…
I was kindly sent some of the Nothing but snacks range to try and was pleasantly surprised. I wasn’t sure what to expect as the snacks are simply fruit/veg with nothing added – just the water taken away. I have to be honest and say that the vegetable snacks weren’t really my thing but the fruit snack bags were superb – delicious, easy to grab on the go and they make a delightful change to crisps. I sometimes find with snack bars they are finished in a few bites, so if you are after something a bit pickier whilst you are sat at your desk – these are definitely one to try. My favourite are the pineapple and grape snack bags – just enough sweetness to feel like a treat, but with only 40 calories per bag they definitely won’t ruin your diet. The Raw Chocolate Company – raw chocolate raisins
I’ve been obsessed with chocolate covered raisins since I first tried them back in the 90’s so finding this raw chocolate version has made my healthier adult life. Now this snack is a little more indulgent but it is made with wholesome, nutritious ingredients such as raisins and virgin cacao butter. If you’re after something sweet in the evenings then these are a must – and if like me you have trouble with portion control, they even come in handy snack bags. And what’s more, if raisins aren’t you’re thing you could try their Goji berries or mulberries pack.
When I first picked up this bar I thought I knew exactly what to expect – the new kids on the block with the same old thing – a bar made up of nuts and dates. How wrong could I be! These bars offer something a little different and if you truly want a treat without the guilt then this is where I’d head. Not only are the bars themselves 100% natural but the packaging is 100% biodegradable and compostable – saving your hunger AND the environment! Oloves
I recently received a pack of Oloves in my Sourced box and I’m totally converted! Sometimes – very rarely, but sometimes – I’m not in the mood for a sweet snack and want something a little bit savoury – which is where these bad boys come in. The superbly named Oloves come in 4 delicious flavours, Chili & Oregano, Basil & Garlic, Chili & Garlic and Lemon & Rosemary. They’re all natural, free from gluten, wheat, dairy and nuts and come in friendly lunchbox packets – making them perfect for your little ones too (or for the adventurous ones at least!)
